inkjet printers provide UV replacement lamps integrated into a
cassette. In order to replace the UV lamp the entire reflector
assembly must also be replaced. The theory is to provide a simple
method of updating the UV dryer. Like any theory, it has its faults.
The main detraction is cost. It is not uncommon to spend $600.00 to
$1000.00 to replace the OEM cassette. Factor in that some machines
incorporate two cassettes, the bill can be staggering. Rather than

Quartz plates for
inkjet UV systems
Many UV inkjet
systems incorporate quartz plates (quartz windows) in
their equipment. The plate is mounted between the UV lamp and the
substrate. Quartz plates serve many purposes
- They isolate the ultraviolet lamp
allowing defined areas for
cooling air
- They keep cooling air away from sensitive
inkjet print heads
- Help mitigate substrate temperature
- Keep misting ink off the UV lamp

Keeping
your
quartz plates clean and free from fingerprints will go a long way to
improving UV performance. Quartz plates naturally solarize with age due
to high temperature and UV level. Over time UV transmission is reduced.
Regular cleaning and/or replacement should be part of any maintenance
plan. Not all quartz is alike. TCS Technologies uses only American
sourced materials for consistent UV output. Quartz originating in China
oftentimes is full of impurities. UV transmission is lower hence your
system suffers.

most ultraviolet systems. Edges are ground smooth and polished. Plates
can be repeatedly cleaned. We can produce almost any size and thickness
